Field Surveys

For the purpose of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), specific field surveys are needed to document the environmental characteristics both within and around a proposed development site.  Typically, different experts will be involved to survey the water and hydrological features, geology and geomorphology, ecology, topography, archaeology and cultural heritage. Our surveys also include noise measurement. See also Projects - Local Plans and Projects - EU Sponsored for more details on field surveys carried out by IRMCo in the Maltese Islands.

Mapping the results of an agricultural field survey and of a cave stability assessment

For reasons of cost-effectiveness, IRMCo has successfully used also aerial photographs and satellite images, particularly when surveys are required of either remote areas or very large areas.  In these instances, field surveys do remain essential as they take the form of a so-called 'ground-truthing' exercise.
