Map Making

It is standard practice at IRMCo to transform the results of field surveys into digital maps, using our in house GIS, the Integrated Land and Water Information System (ILWIS) software.

Typically, in the context of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for local development applications, the results of field surveys are shown using the relevant coordinates of the topographic sheet(s) of the Maltese Islands.   This means that the exact location of any particular feature is always provided to the highest precision

.

The mapping of the environmental resources of the island of Gozo together with its administrative boundaries, road network and many more, resulted in the production of a Gozo Atlas.

However, the process of map making at IRMCo does not stop with just a simple collection of maps or even an entire atlas of maps.  It is the digital storage of the information in a geographic information system which offers a much more distinctive advantage.  Indeed, in doing so, it becomes possible to identify, interpret and gain new insights into different aspects of the environment and the environmental resources in a scientifically reliable and cost effective manner.

See Projects - EU-Sponsored for more examples on the innovation achieved through the map making services conducted by IRMCo.
